Providing both financial and capacity building support from DPA's Partnership Programme since 2006, DPA has observed that Ponleuk Kasekor Thmey Association (PKT) has developed fast in their community development work in Sambour Meas commune, Muk Kampoul district, Kandal province, through building capacity as well as strengthening the participation of the community. Particularly throgh women's empowerment in decision-making and leadership roles.
"In the past, we never really understood the importance of participation, particularly among women," said Mrs. Ken Sokhorn, 57 years old, living in Anglong Sen village, Sambour Meas commune, Muk Kampoul district, Kandal province. "Now things have changed. We are aware of the importance of participation in the village and commune development and women have better understanding about their rights to take part in other activities."
Previously, Mrs. Ken Sokhorn attended trainings on rice planting, money saving, health, local governance, community organising and gender. She is kind, pleasant, diligent, presevering, helpful and keen to help people without any discrimination toward the poor.
Due to her activities in commuity development work as well as her knowledge, experience and attitude, Ms. Sokhorn, was elected by commune representatives in 2008 as a member of the commune council in Sambour Meas ocmmune, Muk Kampoul district, Kandal province.
Ponleuk Kasekor Thmey Association (PKT) works closely and actively with Mrs. Sokhorn in assisting development work programmes in the community- particularly in seven villages of Sambour Meas commune.
Development and Partnership in Action (DPA) will continue to support Ponleuk Kasekor Thmey Association (PKT) and partners through building capacity and offering financial support to achieve their goals. |
